One of the secrets to being a successful blogger is not only to find the right niche, but to be able to continue to create excellent content for that same niche in the long run. Although at first it may seem like you will never run out of great ideas or topics, sometimes it happens. Maybe you’re bored, maybe your imagination is dry, maybe you get a little block case from the writer, or maybe your creative mojo takes some vacation.
Anyway, the good news is that there are ways that you can keep the content you create for your specific niche fresh, interesting and relevant, for you and your readers, for years to come.
Here are five tips you can put into practice whenever you need a creative boost to prevent your blog from becoming obsolete over time:
1. Find inspiration from anywhere
Just because you write for a particular niche doesn’t mean you have to stay in the same circle to keep things interesting. In fact, boxing yourself in a specific state of mind is the fastest way to bleed your dry inspiration.
In Al Kennedy’s article “How to find inspiration to write,” he points out that he finds more interesting inspirational avenues from a “mental commitment to finding something and/or anything that inspires”.
In other words, you don’t need to change your environment to find inspiration. Sometimes it’s just a matter of drawing inspiration from anything, including other niches that aren’t related to yours. You might even find that, in some cases, it’s not a specific topic that will inspire you, but a feeling you might get from what you read, hear or see.
2. Take a little detour to another similar topic but from time to time
As this article from the Copywriting Then and Now blog points out, if you stop being creative with the content you write, you do so at your own risk. Creative topics don’t always have to be directly related to your niche. Each niche has a market and a subniche. From time to time, don’t be afraid to create broader content that touches on other related topics.
For example, if your niche is acne, your subniches are skin care and health. You can always write about other health problems associated with acne, recipes to maintain healthy skin, etc.
Find out what questions, concerns, etc. your readers have on your niche and address them in your content, even if they are not fully related.
3. Start from scratch
Even if you’ve ever been an expert in your particular niche, try to imagine yourself as someone who doesn’t know anything about it, and write as if it were the first time, even if you’ve already written about similar topics a long time ago.
You might find Neil Patel’s advanced content marketing guide to be inspiring by following this tip. In his guide, he looks at the details and takes you back to the basics of the creative writing process. Every time you sit down to write new content, you need to select your topic and approach, search, organize, write, pause, and then edit.
Imagine approaching each subject as if it were the first time you wrote it. Don’t assume you already know the answers. Re-study yourself and you can just find a new and interesting angle. This is especially true in areas where people often seek guidance and help, such as technology, gambling, video games, food, etc.
4. Write an opinion piece to create a discussion
According to “How to write interesting content for a boring topic” by Patrick Dholakiya, there are no boring topics, only creators of boring content. Remember this when you’re having trouble creating interesting content. If you feel like you’ve exhausted every angle in your niche, get out of the fence and write an opinion piece.
If you’re afraid you’ll get boring, become passionate about a subject and write down what you believe. Depending on your target market and the commitment of your readers, you may find the most controversial topic. Create a discussion and get interested. Share your opinion and encourage them to do the same.
5. Ask yourself a strange question and write the answer
Keep your content interesting by keeping it weird from time to time. What is the strangest thought, comment or question that has ever crossed your mind regarding your targeted niche? Anyway, make it a subject.
I can’t think of anything weird. Check out the question-and-answer site Quora.com and search. You’ll probably find inspiration from the questions and answers left by other Quora users.
Adding some weird and unusual content from time to time keeps your blog fresh, fun and interesting. Remember, just because you’re focusing on a niche, that doesn’t mean you’re limited to writing about only certain topics. Be inspired by anything, write passionately, express your opinion and don’t be afraid to learn something new.
